Ramble round the Heart of Histon, 1979, contains a detailed description of this area.
Mr Christmas was a local builder whose family had been in Histon for generations. Charlie Muncey the basket maker also had his business here. He used to stack the osiers that he used in the water course to keep them pliable. He would make baskets for Chivers until he was actually incorporated into Chivers.
The Christmas family were also undertakers. As such they were allowed to work on Sundays. Ted Christmas was the last to make coffins. He also made caravans for the fairground community.
A fire badly damaged the businesses here and they were replaced by modern hosing.
