MW wrote in 2024: I knew a Solvi Bateson, a Norwegian writer, who lived in 10 Earl street in 1970. She then married Boris von Heisler. it was a lovely house. She used to come to a small village on the Suffolk coast. She had friends there, among them an English actress.
I can’t tell you much about life in Cambridge except for the weekend I stayed with Mrs Bateson ( or Mrs von Heisler by then, she was a widow prior to then). It was interesting that she was a translator; she was very friendly with Ann Todd, a British actress who became famous for the ‘Seventh Veil’ with James Mason in which she plays a pianist under a guardian who was tyrannical. She called her daughter after the character she played. I met Miss Todd in Walberswick where she used to stay in the Anchor Hotel and eventually bought a house there.
