1823 skating match held at Forty-foot 23.1.1823. Illustrated in Annals of Sporting for 1823 showing race in progress at Carter’s Bridge on Chatteris March road.

Famous skaters from Chatteris included the Drake brothers, John, William and Matthew.

The freeze of 1814 lasted 60 days. A man named Young of Mepal beat the existing champion Thompson from Wimblington. He also beat Hicklin of Crowland in a match at Chatteris, and Dyalls on Whittlesea mere for a prize of £20.
