Pound Yard was opposite the Pound which was an enclosure where stray animals were impounded in the days when High Green was open grazing and the fields had not been enclosed.

This was known as the Nurse’s House and was where the District Nurse lived. It was built c.1955 on ground taken from the garden of The Elms.
