W M Palmer wrote in 1923:

Near the Flint is an ancient milestone with a crescent cut on it for Trinity Hall. It is one of a series set up under the will of a Feloow of Trinity Hall, and the fact that he chose this road, proves, I think, that this was the most frequented road to London.

One of sixteen milestones on the old Cambridge to London road set up by William Warren in 1727-32 under the bequest of Dr William Mowse, Master of Trinity Hall 1552-53 for the upkeep of roads in and about Cambridge. (English Heritage)
