Milton Hall, Castor

History of Milton Hall

Listed Building:

From 1594 with attic of 1773 by Sir William Chambers and south front of 1745-50 by Flitcroft. Interiors by Flitcroft and Chambers. Built by William Fitzwilliam, Lord Deputy of Ireland.

The hall served as a base for volunteer forces from Napoleonic times onwards; as a hospital in the First World War; and in the Second World War as the  HQ of an AA Division, as a Czech army depot, and as an SOE/SAS training school.
