In 1981  Cristina Sheriff spoke to the CWN (9.4). She was an artist and teacher who eventually ran classes in her own home.

My grandfather who owned this house had a hatter’s in Petty Cury, which before that was an inn next to Falcon Yard. Oliver Cromwell is believed to have changed his hat at the inn and we had what was believed to be Cromwell’s hat here at this house. The most fascinating thing about it for me was the hat box made in patchwork sections of beaver. The hat was tall and black.
