The History of 15 York Terrace

This property was not on the Census between 1881 and 1911.  The Spaldings Directory for 1919 numbers it as 7a.

The Cambridge Independent Press on 2nd May 1919, ran an article about Women’s War Work at the Ortona Motor Company where women worked as bus “conductorettes”. The picture they used features “Mrs. M. Palmer of 7a York Terrace”.

Arthur Hebert Palmer, 38, born in Cambridge, brickmaker’s labourer – out of work. He has added ‘Army’ above ‘out of work’
Mary Palmer, 37, born in London,
Jack Palmer, 15, born in Cambridge, apprentice chef at St. John’s College on St. John’s
Clara Palmer, 7, born in Cambridge, school child
Madge Palmer, 5, born in Cambridge, school child
