A late Bronze-Age foundry stood where the present Badlingham Road crosses Lee Brook.
In 1884-85 a shallow trench of blackened earth and charcoal was discovered with several crude lumps of metal of either copper or bronze. Some portions of leaf-shaped swords were found and, ten yards away, a perfect bronze sword. (Cyril Fox, Archaeology of the Cambridge Region 1923)
