Number 15 Sleaford Street does not appear on the 1881 Census. It is part of the terrace known as Memorial Buildings. In 1891, this was number 8, and in 1898 was known as “No.5 Memorial Buildings“. By 1901 the property had the modern numbering of 15 Sleaford Street.
In 1891, this is home to the Mills family. Frances Mills, aged 37, is married to Ben Mills, aged 43, a Grocer’s Clerk. They have three children, all of whom are attending school: Harry, aged 11; Fred, aged 7; and Ethel, aged 5. Also living with them is Ben’s nephew, Harry Fordham, a 16 year old who works as a Tram Conductor.
