RM sent this note in 2026:
I knew Fred & Vera Whitham well through their [adopted] Malcolm. They moved to 45 Leys Ave in the early 1950s but kept the shop on. Fred finally gave up the shop in about 1965 as with the end of resale price maintenance he could not compete with the new supermarkets. He got a job in admin at Downing College. Retiring at age 65 in about 1977 he passed away in 1995. Vera passed away in 2002.
