6 Egerton Close

History of 6 Egerton Close

1962:

William A Weston

c.1980 Mr Weston reminisced to ‘Memories of Abbey and East Barnwell’: When my family first moved into Egerton Close, not all the road were made up. Because of the mud we had to wear wellington boots to walk from Egerton Close to Dudley Road and chnge our shoes, hiding our boots under the hedge until our return. On the area, which is now Dudley Road, recreation ground, was a huge mound of earth deposited there when digging out foundations for the houses. people would use the earth to level their gardens when moving in. I remember my father used two lorry loads of earth to level our front garden.
