History of 17 Emmanuel Street

This property was purchased early in the 17th cent. by Emmanuel College. At the end of the 18th cent. Rev George Borlase lived here, professor of Moral Philosophy. On the death of his widow in 1836, a Mr Searle lived there. The house then passed successively into the hand of Mr Gunning and then Mr Clement Francis.
