1851:

William Armstrong, 39, bookbinder


1861:

William Armstrong, 50, bookbinder, b Chesterton


1901:

Joseph Manning, 50, fruiterer, b Burwell

Francis, 49, lodging house keeper, b Burwell

William H Manning, 18, engineer,  b Soham

See One Man’s Cambridge by J A Charles: Frances Caroline Charles married Joseph Manning in 1853, a coal merchant and gardener, originally from Soham.  Their son, William, joined the staff of the University Observatory in 1905 as assistant to H F Newall.

In 1911 the family are living at 61 Richmond Road.


1970:

Leonard Whitehead, hairdresser [Kelly’s is no.11]


1981:

Derek Gibbons ran an antiquarian bookshop. He told Sara Payne (23.4.1981 CWN) that when drains in green Street had flooded not many years before, a quantity of bear fur was found to be responsible. See The Volunteer, Green Street.
