House built by John Constable on land purchased from the estate of Charles Humfrey, being part of the garden of Humfrey’s mansion, Clarendon House.


25th March 1854: Freehold owner, sale price £70

George William Swann, banker’s clerk, later landscape artist, resident 17 years, d.1871; first wife Elizabeth (née Constable), daughter of John above, d.1864; second wife Eliza Jeanetta (née Plees), not resident after 1871, d.1892.


1872 Leasehold tenant

William Neal, commercial traveller, with daughter Ellen, resident 10 years.

Henry Worman, banker’s clerk, with wife Fanny and daughter Elsie, resident 2 years.

Leasehold tenant: Samuel Catling, carpenter, landlord to undergraduates of Christ’s College, resident 19 years. Moved to live with daughter Elsie.
