History of 44 Belvoir Road

1939:

William Plumb, b 1903, tailor and hosier’s assistant (senior air raid warden)

Ruby A, b 1898 [formerly Ruby Aves]

Their daughter, Margaret, describes the life of the family in some detail in the book ‘Catholics in Cambridge’ p219f. Her parents used to go to the the Catholic church, ‘the English Martyrs,‘ on their bikes. Father would go to the 7am and then pass his wife on the way back crossing Midsummer Common for the 8am service.

In 1941 Margaret started school in the kindergarten of Paston House School in Bateman Street.
