81 High Street, Hill House, Chesterton

History of 81 High Street

Royal Commission Survey of Cambridge 1959: built early in the 19th cent. … the street front is symmetrical, in three bays, with a projecting glazed porch in the middle. This last is comparatively modern but the reset door case is of the early 18th cent.

The property used to have extensive gardens.

In the 1850s Edward Fitzgerald is believed to have lived here when writing the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.
