John Charles Newell: Serjeant 5572, 7th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Killed in action 12 October 1916, Born and enlisted Cambridge.  According to British Postal Service Appointment Books, 1737-1969 in 1908 he was appointed an Assistant Postman in Cambridge and gain in 1909. No known grave. Commemorated on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. Pier and Face 1 C and 2 A. See also Cambridge Holy Trinity and Cambridge Guildhall (Royal Mail Roll of Honour)
