White Horse, 29 High Street, Burwell

History of the White Horse, Burwell

The White Horse Inn dates from the 18th century. In 1830 the building was widened towards the street; soon after the building was extended in the same style to the side to provide an assembly room. The pub was sold in 1841 as one of several auctioned after the bankruptcy of James Nutter and William Elliston.

Burwell Chronicle 7/5/1842: Freehold …. belonging to the brewery of Messrs Nutter and Elliston … a messuage, formerly the White Horse, with Outbuildings, Yard and Garden, situate in the High Street: tenant Oliver Carter. Freehold.
