Courtyard in Broad Street, Ely, with communal pump c.1838 (pencil, Henry Baines)

St Peter, Broad Street, Ely

History of St Peter

Ann Powell recalled in The Way We Remember It: Opposite the show room was St Peter’s Church. My aunties took me there on summer evenings to sit beneath the six winged seraphim and listen to Evensong. It had a thriving congregation of maiden ladies, a choir of local boys, a Sunday School ruled by Miss Langhorn and an endless supply of budding priests from the Theological College at the top of Back Hill.

Audrey Denton in Broad Street, Ely, 1991, writes about reminiscences of Mrs Florence Flack from the 1930s.
