Ridding potatoes by hand. Greenie is the tallest, Granddad Chapman in centre and William Freeman on right hand side
George Green, a well-known Haddenham inhabitant, known as Greenie. Greenie sums up life in Haddenham before WWI; big families; poor Agricultural Labourer wages; worked for the Freemans, Ruanes and other farming families before volunteering at Newmarket, He tells of his two year army experiences in East Africa and the coincidence of meeting the vicar’s daughter who was nursing out there. Twenty years later Kevin filmed there!
A good interview about the social side of a Fen Village. In his retirement he lived near the village school and gave the children sweets in the afternoon!
