Fourteen members of a gang that had terrorised the Soham area for two years were caught. At the trial 22 men were in custody charged with stealing objects from several villages in the area. 16 were convicted. Of these, 13 were transported, three sentenced to hard labour.
The men convicted were William Day, Thomas Isaacson, George Isaacson, Edward Isaacson, Sam Wright sen., Sam Wright jnr, Henry Attlesey, John Attlesey, James Bailey, William West, William Arnold, William Worlledge, John Thurston, Richard Cater, William Webb and William Canham.

George Peacock and A E Elsden ran the Soham Flying Fund during WWI which raised money for food and cigarettes to be sent to the Soham men fighting. In peace time they collected money on Hospital Sundays.
