History of the Old Hall

Listed Building

Although a barn now, this was probably once a superior stable with hay-loft over; or some other service building.

The Old Hall Stuntney, OS 1886

In the 1920s the Hall was home to Cole Ambrose who, it was said, could lie on his back at night and see the stars through holes in the roof. He built a new house and the old hall fell into disrepair.

Onion peeling, Ely

Cole Ambrose farmed many acres and had onion peeling sheds alongside the Ely to Stuntney road. The peeled onions were pack in tubs and salted ready for pickling.
