Methodist Chapel, Swaffham Fen

History of Methodist Chapel, Swaffham Fen

Jolly Anglers and methodist Chapel nr Wicken OS 1885

William Coles in his Memoirs describes a trip to the chapel in Swaffham Fen. He rode from Cottenham in a buggy with the Rev Sansom to Waterbeach from where he made his way to the Jolly Anglers. He was rowed across the river and then after a short walk reached the little Bethel.

Another time though he reached the Jolly Anglers only to find there was no boat. He had to shout to someone on the other side, “Please tell the people if you see them that the preacher was unable to cross the river and has returned to Cottenham.”
