The Eve Stud, Woodditton

History of Eve Stud

RH Vincent, ‘A Tanner Will Do,’  recalls “Gurry’s Clock’ here chiming the hours, always 5 minutes fast.

Sir Victor Sassoon’s Eve Stud with its main buildings by the crossroads had paddocks lying to the south, down to Ditton Park Wood. The stud buildings included a clock tower with chiming clock known as “Gurry’s clock”. Martin Gurry, the original owner of the stud, railed to get the support of the villagers when he built it and had the clock facing away from the village so they shouldn’t benefit.

Wood Ditton Stud (formerly the Eve Stud) is owned by Mr Nam Send Yong from Singapore.
