Christchurch, Christchurch / Brimstone Hill

History of Christchurch

The church dates from 1862 and formerly had a tower on the north side. This was demolished by 1883 because of poor foundations. It was the home of Dorothy L Sayers, whose father was Rector, and it features in her novel The Nine Tailors, published in 1934.

Christchurch was previously known as Brimstone Hill.
