Clock tower, New Street, Doddington

History of the clock tower

Listed Building:

Clock tower. Late C19 inscribed ‘Public Memorial’, ‘Queen Victoria’, ‘Record Reign’, ‘1837-1897’, on arches to open first stage.

The clock tower was erected in 1897 for Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. It cost £80 at the time; the spire and weathervane were added later. The clock tower was moved in 1938 to widen the road.
