Acre Road, March

History of Acre Road

Originally known as High Dyke.

When Owen Grey became the owner pf the Acre Mill in the early 19th century it contained a large ancient granary occasionally used aa a  theatre and later as a chapel for he Independents.

1840 John Smith of Nottingham purchased the premises for his son to develop a coal, turf, timber and corn business.

1847 After coming of railway new granaries were built.

1893 J C Boyce ran a common lodging house here
