St John the Baptist, Royston

History of St John the Baptist

Listed Building

Originally church of Augustinian Priory, founded second half C12, converted to parish church after the Dissolution. C13 nave and aisles, C16 west tower, C19 chancel and east end of south aisle. Nave re-roofed early C16. C15 carved stone figures of St Thomas Becket and Madonna and Child. Richly carved C15 wood pulpit and lectern.
