History of Plantagenet House

C17. Timber-framed, partly plastered

This house was named after Edward Plantagenet, son of Edward III, lord of the manor house which stood formerly on this site.

In the 18th cent. it was owned by John Downes, butcher and farmer. He paid the Sun Insurance company a premium of 16s in 1761. The house and contents were insured for £200, the other buildings for a further £200.. A whole wing was demolished during restoration in 1977.
