From Bombs to Buckets, Dora Tack (1989)

Council Houses, Little Stukeley

History of council houses

This is where Dora Tack moved to in 1940 from New Street Godmanchester in 1940 after being evacuated from London. She stayed with Florrie Yates, and old friend of her mother’s. Their house is described as the end council house near Alconbury Aerodrome.

Dora got a job at the Shepherd’s Cafe attached to a bakery in Huntingdon High Street. She was downstairs waitress at 16s per week.

At the end of 1940 she and her mother were able to move in together at the Coach House in Lattenbury Hill.
