The Hoskison family moved here from 98 Lovell Road when Joan Hoskison was appointed Hostel keeper by Selwyn College. Leonard continued to go out to work and Joan was paid a small salary by Selwyn. Their flat was free and there were no bills to pay. Nine men lived at the hostel but they ate at the college. (See Backstairs Cambridge, 1986 by Jane Barham) Jane paints a vivid picture of life as a young woman in Cambridge; she was around 20 at this time. Joan died of cancer in 1971 just as they were about to retire from work. Leonard moved to Newnham.
