125 Rooks Street, Cottenham

History of 125 Rooks Street

See Cottenham in Focus (2002): this was the house of the Cross family. In November 1859 John Cross kicked down the door of the Rose and Crown and threatened to kill the landlady.

He was confined to an upper room in the house where the thatch was in such poor condition the moon could be seen through it. In January 1862 he was discovered suffering from hypothermia and frostbite; he died a few days later.
