1850

31.8.1850: Cambridge Chronicle reported (7.9.1850): ‘Fire after fire succeeds and the inhabitants of Cottenham are kept in almost one continual state of alarm and excitement.’

On 31.8.1850 John Pierson, the Town Crier, who was watching the Church Yard, saw flames in the barn of John Nottage (25 High Street).

The Cottenham fire engine hadn’t been cleaned since the fire in April and couldn’t be used.
