28 – 34 Corbett Street, Locks Row, Cottenham

History of 28 - 34 Corbett Street

This row of houses was built by John Lock. Just beyond no. 34 had been two cottages (see 36 – 42 Corbett Street) which thatch rooves where Arthur Hopkins, the mole catcher, hung his moleskins to dry. The tenants of Locks Row objected so much to the smell that John Lock bought the two cottages from the owner, ‘Tiffler’ Watson, demolished them and built another row of houses.
