Croxton deserted medieval village & 16th cent. garden

History of deserted village and garden

Scheduled Monument

The site lies in a scheduled area of archaeological significance with Bronze Age and Roman finds recovered from the vicinity. Also within Croxton Park itself are the earthwork remains of designated Croxton deserted medieval village. Croxton Park also contains a Grade II* registered mid-18th century house and walled garden and also the 12th century Saint James Church. The project revealed fairly modern dumped deposits and made ground, as well as showing the continuation of the above ground 17th to mid 19th century curved brick ha-ha further towards the south than is visible above ground.
