Clopton is a deserted medieval village that stood on a ridge of the same name. It is recorded in the Domesday Book when it was inhabited by 18 peasants. It is believed that the village was deserted between 1500 and 1518 after John Fisher, a London lawyer, purchased the land from the Clopton family to create enclosures. The sites of the church, St Mary, two moated sites and a mill have been located.
