Roman Road, Grantchester

History of Roman Road

Grantchester, Roman road, OS 1885

Cyril Fox in 1923 ( The Archaeology of the Cambridge Region) described a small rectangular earthwork adjoining the village  school on the line of the road from Red Cross to Barton and Toft…. The road to the ford appears to follow the line of the ditch. Roman coins have frequently been found in the schoolhouse garden, which is partly within the entrenchment.
