History of Toll Gate Cottage
Listed Building:
Cottage. Late C18, C20 renovation.
The Cambridge Road was turnpiked in Abington 1765 – 1876. The C18 saw stage coaches, and there were some coaching inns in Abington. For example the White Hart Inn run by the Lagdens, closed 1797. (MoC note)
On the left of this photo, taken before 1924, can be seen the two south gables of Mistress Amy Smee’s house, 1670. To the right was the village pound.
