69 High Street, Crossways, Melbourn

History of 69 High Street

Listed bulding:

House. c.1840. Grey brick and hipped roof of octagonal slates with symmetrically placed internal stacks.

SM sent this interesting note in February 2025:

My great-uncle, Percy Salmon (1872-1959), lived there from 1927 to about 1953.  Percy was a well-known photographer, journalist and author.  The Cambridgeshire Collection holds a number of his slides as well as other information. From his diaries, you may be interested to note that he recorded the following: he moved to Melbourn on 17th Oct 1927; electricity was provided on 28th Nov 1935, and water was laid on on 19th May 1941 (the last figure of the date is a little unclear). The rateable value of the property was £21!
