RAF Steeple Morden in 1947

RAF Steeple Morden

History of RAF Steeple Morden

Started as a satellite for Bassingbourn in late 1940, initially with Wellingtons.

16th February a Junkers 88A-5 was forced to land at the base and its undercarriage collapsed.

The first American unit to serve here was the 5th Photographic group commanded by Colonel Elliott Roosevelt, son of the president.
