Capturing Cambridge makes use of browser cookies and session storage for a number of purposes as detailed below.
Capturing Cambridge is run by the Museum of Cambridge and the Museum’s Privacy Policy covers use of your private data if you use the forms on the Contact or Donate pages.
Necessary Cookies
We set cookies or use session storage on your device to store the following information:
- that the user has been verified as a real person by Cloudflare Turnstile
- the current map style and zoom level
- that the donation popup has been seen and should not be shown again for a week
- whether analytics cookies can be used or not
- the scroll positions of the pages so they can be restored during history navigation
- the current page name when the Contact link is used on a page so it can be pre-filled into the contact form
Third party components on the website may also set cookies.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics only if you have accepted the use of those cookies in the popup banner. This allows us to know where our visitors come from, what pages they visit and how they use the site, so that we can continue to improve.
You can enable/disable analytics by clicking on the cookie icon in the toolbar to the left.
YouTube/Vimeo players
On this site YouTube and Vimeo players don’t load automatically when you visit a page, only when you click on them to start playback. At this point they may set a number of cookies to allow them to operate and to gather data (YouTube cookies, Vimeo cookies).
BeaconCRM
When you visit the Donate page an embedded page from BeaconCRM loads and sets its own cookies to allow it to operate.
Cloudflare
We use Cloudflare Turnstile to verify that a real person is accessing the site and not a bot in two cases:
- Before loading the map
- When submitting the form on the Contact page

MapTiler
The maps are provided by MapTiler using their SDK which may set its own cookies.
