Richard Douglas Pettit was reported by the Cambridge Press in March 1905 before the Official Receiver for bankruptcy. Liabilities were £128, assets £31. Pettit said he was formally a journeyman carpenter but had started his own business in 1899. Around Christmas 1903 he was in difficulties from losing money on contracts. He continued to draw £2 a week from the business ‘to keep peace at home’ even though he was not making that much.
