1955-70

The Whitworth family moved to Sedley Taylor Road circa 1955. Rev Whitworth was vicar of St Mary the Great; he married Phoebe Frances Eiris May.

Timothy George Whitworth (1932 – 2019)

Timothy studied at Marlborough College (1946-1950), then at Trinity College Cambridge (1952-55) where he read history.  After taking his Dip.Ed at Christ Church, Oxford, he then taught history, politics and economics at King’s College Taunton for 30 years until he retired in 1986.

His publications involved chess, in particular Endgame studies. From 1988 to 1994 he wrote the Endgame study column in the British Chess Magazine. He also wrote studies of significant figures in the history of chess. His ‘Endgame Magic’ with John Beasley was published in 1996, 2nd Edition 2017.
