History of 62 Cavendish Road

1913: Charles Nunn, corporation servant

1916: CIP 20.10.1916:  Mr. and Mrs. Nunn, 62, Cavendish-road, have received information that their son, Cpl. Maynard Frank Nunn, of the Northumberland Fusiliers (transferred from Cambs. Regt., was killed in action October 3rd. His captain writes: “He was killeel instantaneously on Oct. 3rd, and we feel his loss all the more as, although he had only been with us a short time, he had shown himself to be a true soldier and a very useful N.C.O. We all deeply sympathise with you in your sad loss.” The Brigade Chaplain writes: “Your son’s comrades desire to convey to you their sincere sympathy in your loss. They feel that they are the poorer for the parting of a good friend and a true soldier. It will, I trust, be some consolation to you in your sorrow to realise that your son has given his life for the sake of others.”—Before he enlisted Corpl. Nunn (who was 18 years of age) was a carpenter’s apprentice with Mr. Ambrose, of Gwydir-street. was educated at St. Philip’s School, Romsey Town. A brother of Corpl. Nunn, also in the Cambs., was wounded about two mouths ago, and is now back in the trenches.
