Alfred married Edith Emma Green.

In September 1913 Alfred and family, as well as Green in-laws sailed on RMS Otranto to Australia. They arrived at Brisbane after 45 days.

Alfred joined the Queensland Railway and became a foreman based in Brisbane.

In 1916 Walter enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces. By February 1917 he was in England. He was killed in action in October of that year.
