The History of the Holeman Family

1881

Head of household is 55-yearold Daniel Holeman, a plumber who was born in Bermondsey, Surrey. His wife is Eliza, 53 and from Kent.  Their 20-year-old daughter Mary lives with them and also their 4-year-old granddaughter, Alice Holeman.

1891

In 1891, 11 Kingston Street remains home to the Holeman family. Eliza Holeman, is now a 64 year old widow, Daniel having died in 1887. She works as a laundress. She lives with three of  her children: Alfred, 42, born in London, working as a plumber; Mary-Ann, 26, born in Cambridgeshire, not working; and Alice, 14, born in London, who was in school.  On the 1881 Census Alice was recorded as Eliza’s granddaughter, so it’s possible Alice is actually Mary’s child.

1901

By 1901, Eliza Holeman is still working as a Laundress; Alfred and Alice have both left home though Mary Ann is still living here, working with her mother as a Laundress’s assistant.

1911

By 1911, Eliza, now 83, is no longer working, and Mary Ann, now 45 has taken over the Laundry work.
