1896 – 1911

Abraham Hunt lived at 95 Sturton Street until 1896, the year his wife Hannah died.  On the 1901 census Abraham is recorded as being 68 years old and a builder’s labourer.  He was born in Cambridge.

His son, Stephen, is 16 and works as a bill paster.  Ann Greenwood is 48 and recorded as a domestic.  The 1911 census clarifies that she is their housekeeper.

The rest of the 1911 entry is rather more confusing.  Abraham writes that he has been married for 40 years and has no children.  His first wife (Eliza) died in 1881, he probably remarried around 1885 as his son was born in that year.  He wasn’t married to either woman for 40 years, perhaps he has added up the years!  Stephen isn’t with his father on the 1911 census and appears to have vanished from the records.

There are two visitors to 118 Sturton Street, Thomas and Sarah French.  He is a 49 year old general gardener, and she is a 52 year old domestic servant.
