The Family of a Grocer's Manager

1901 – 1915

The 1901 Census records John Charles Richardson, aged 27, living here with his wife Caroline, aged 26.  John is a grocer’s manager.

By 1911 the couple have an 8 year old son called Stanley.  The census records that they have been married for ten years, Stanley is the only child.

“Cambridge Special Constables. This  Year’s List. Special Constables for the Borough of Cambridge, numbering 108, were sworn in at the Borough Police Court on Friday” Saffron Walden Weekly News 24 October 1913 One of the names on the list was ‘James Charles Richardson, 19 Sturton Street‘.  Perhaps John was known as James, or it was just a clerical error.

The house appears in the Saffron Walden Weekly News a second time.  In May 1914, John is selling “Boy’s bicycle, 2 brakes, good condition, inspection invited – apply 19 Sturton Street, Cambridge”

John can be found on the electoral register for this property until 1915.
