At the time of WWI it was the home of Eric Humphrey Hopkinson who had started as an undergraduate at Trinity College in 1913. His father was a GP in the Manchester area. Eric was a lieutenant with the Cambridgeshire Regiment when he was awarded the Military Cross for his actions at Ypres 14/5/1915 and Houplines 1/6/1915.
